Here’s a couple “underground” artists that I’ve been getting into lately…
Soulever Lift (available on iTunes) – nasty guitar-face-shredding awesomeness
Ryan Edgar (available on iTunes) – soulful vocals
Curt Chambers (iTunes) – All around good musicianship in raw live format

As a “professional” musician/worship leader, it’s important to keep your “bag-o-tricks” fresh. This is just a taste of the stuff that I’m feeling right now. I want these CD’s.

The recent John Mayer concert entitled “On His Own” – a benefit for Toys for Tots and the LA Food Bank is going to be streaming here for the rest of the week.

Creative. Raw. Awesome.
Ryan Edgar. Heard about this guy tonight while I was watching Kari Jobe‘s live video chat. Apparently this is her boyfriend. He sings with Israel and New Breed. Just picked up his EP on iTunes. Excited to give it a listen!
My last post about Steve Jordan unofficially began a new blog series. This one makes it official.
I’m an avid Charlie Hunter fan. Wait, let me back up… I’m a John Mayer fanatic, so I’ve done what any musician who’s trying to find their sound has done: researched who influenced those who are influencing you. Eventually you’ll get to the bottom of it and find something for yourself somewhere along the line.
Back to Charlie. He influenced John’s (we’re on a first name basis) playing in many ways I’m sure. But it’s most prevalent in his song “Neon” from his “Room for Squares” album. The guitar work in this song is definitely worth a listen if you haven’t heard it. The thing that makes it so Charlie Hunter-esque is the bass line and melody being played at the same time. Not to mention John had Novax – a guitar company that specializes in making custom guitars that have detuned bass strings and fanned frets to compensate for loose low ends, and who also makes most of Charlie’s guitars – make him a signature guitar… primarily JUST for this one song. But enough talking, I’ll let you hear/see some of the nastiness I’m talking about.
From Steve Jordan:
I respect this guy tremendously not only as a drummer but an all around musician.
